Aged Care Education and Training Incentive

The Aged Care Education and Training Incentive (ACETI) Program will provide incentive payments to eligible aged care workers who undertake specified education and training programs.

This program builds on current workplace training programs that support people working in the aged care sector by providing financial incentives to existing aged care workers who undertake further studies to upgrade qualifications and build their career in aged care.

Funding for mature age workers (50yrs & over) for RPL The Australian Government has announced a new element of Experience+, the More Help for Mature Aged Workers Initiative. This initiative will provide workers aged 50yrs and over with trade relevant skills but no formal qualifications, the opportunity to have their skills assessed and formally recognised. The AIFL offers 100% RPL by eRecognition, a great pathway for workers with vocational skills who do not have a formal qualification. The initiative allows eligible employere to apply for reimbursement of costs associated with RPL capped at $2200 (including GST). National Workforce Development Fund

Aged Care training has been specifically identified as an area for development through this funding and has been allocated $25 million towards skill development. A further $23 million has been allocated across all sectors and industries.

The newly announced funding through the National Workforce Development Fund (NWDF) is a four-year funding scheme, through the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR), to help enterprises identify their workforce development needs and apply for funding of qualifications and skill sets that can address those needs.

The NWDF offers the aged care sector an opportunity to train existing and new workers in formal qualifications. It also provides flexibility so organisations can identify support services such as mentoring to enhance learning programs and delivery of formal training. As a broker, CS&HISC is working with the Aged Care sector to identify elements of good practice in workforce development and training delivery so organisations have a clear understanding of what to look for when partnering with a registered training organisation. It is important that the training delivered is of the highest quality.

The NWDF also opens the way for employers to address current and future business needs by considering a range of qualifications and skill sets in addition to specific aged care qualifications. For example organisations in the aged care sector may apply for training places in management development, training and assessment, allied health and other health services to support their work in aged care. The focus of this funding is on strengthening the development of the workforce and workplaces, and to this end the parameters for funding have embedded flexibility.

Employment Services Providers are also eligible to apply for funds through the NWDF in order to assist organisations in recruiting new entrants into their workforce. This was not the case under the Enterprise Based Productivity Places Program (EBPPP) also funded by DEEWR. Almost 1,000 places were funded within the community services and health industries through EBPPP when it launched last year and we will continue to support these recipients and this program until its completion in February 2014.

The Department of Health and Ageing (DOHA) has also provided significant funding to support skills development through vocational qualifications in recent years and CS&HISC is working with program managers in DOHA to ensure the NWDF complements this investment.

National Workforce Development Fund targets aged care The AIFL is keen to partner with organisations interested in considering an application to train existing workers or new workers in aged care. The AIFL offers units as well as full courses,100% on line and on the job, across the HLT and CHC training packages. Existing workers can undertake their upskilling in the workplace accessing the workplace computer to undertake their on line work and utilsie their colleagues and supervisors to assess their competence in the relevant unit/qualification. The blended learning (on line and on the job) is also ideal for trainees and this model is a great way to invest in your future workforce utilising the many incentives available for apprentices and trainees. Hume Region Allied Health Assistant Conference

The AIFL is partnering with the Department of Health to launch the inaugural Hume Region Allied Health Assistant Conference. This conference aims to promote the role of the Allied Health Assistant (AHA) and provide locally delivered professional development and networking opportunities for rural and regional AHAs. It will be held in Beechworth on the 5th and 6th of June.

Who should attend?
• AHAs (unqualified, qualified, and students)
• Other health support workers including: personal care/home and community care (HACC) workers, disability support workers, mental health support workers, and aged care workers
• Allied Health Practitioners and managers
• Educators, academics and policy makers
• Anyone else interested in the AHA role
